III.The 7th grade Tardy Policy
The students are responsible for making sure they get to class on time. For every day the student is tardy, one of the boxes will be filled out below. The student will also receive silent lunch for every day tardy. A silent lunch slip will go home to let the parent know of the tardies. Once the student has reached 5 tardies, that student will have an afterschool detention. Every tardy after the fifth tardy will result in afterschool detention.

IV.Homework (see Craven County Handbook p. 65).
Students will receive approximately 25 minutes of homework per night per class. Students should write their homework assignments in their agenda each night. All homework is due the next day unless otherwise specified. Home work is graded for completion. For math, completion is determined by whether or not they show work or write an explanation stating what they did to get the answer.

Homework Excuse Form
This is a form that the students will fill out whenever the student has not completed a homework assignment. The student will be directed to the computer to fill out an online form where the students will state why they did not complete the homework assignment.

The Bobcat teachers has created a webpage for the team. The students will have to sign in to get access.

V. Make up work:
When a student is absent from school, it is their responsibility to gather all of their make-up work on the first day of their return. Students will have 3 school days to make up the work and turn it in if the absence was excused. If a test was administered that day, students will need to arrange a time with the teacher to make up the test within 5 days.Any work not made up within 3 school days of the excused absence will result in a zero.If a student receives an unexcused absence, it is left up to teacher discretion whether or not the student can make up the work.If your child will be absent for more than 3 days due to illness, or other reasons, please call the counseling center 444-7208 and request work so that your child does not fall behind in his/her classes. Parents should not call for make up work if their child is absent for only one day.
Early Checkout/In School ActivitiesWhen a student checks out early or misses a class session(s) due to in school activities for clubs and/or other classes, the student is still responsible for that day’s work. If a student checks out early, they are responsible for getting any assignments given that day for the classes that will be missed. Due dates for the assignments will be the same as if they were present for class. In school activities like field trips for clubs or other classes, the student is expected to follow the same policy. For any notes given, the student is responsible for getting them from a peer. If a test or quiz was given, the student will be expected to be ready to take the quiz or test upon return to class.

Missing and Rework Day – The Bobcats Teachers will have students that have any missing assignments make them up during lunch. The students will be allowed 5 days of working lunch before the student will have to start attending after school learning lab to make up work. If the student doesn’t bring the work or work on the assignment during working lunch, it will become silent lunch. The teachers will be keeping track of the students 5 days and the table below will be signed by the teachers as well for the parents to see. The purpose of staying after school is to ensure students have all their work done from the previous week(s). This way, students who may need additional help with a subject can get it and this will ensure that all assignments are completed. Any students who does not show for an after school rework/makeup work session will receive a grade of ZERO for any missing work.

VI. Late Work:
We ask that you stress to your child how important it is to learn to meet deadlines that are set for them. These deadlines help students learn an important lesson in time management and organization. All class work, home work, projects etc… is due upon the declared deadline.
For late work, the grade will be deducted 10 points for everyday the assignment is late.

VII. Rework Policy
In order to help our students be successful, we have put in place a rework policy in each classroom. This policy replaces the need to do any extra credit work. With this policy, students will not only be able to improve their scores on low grades, but also help them learn from their own mistakes and gain a better understanding of the material. This is a mandatory policy that all students must participate.

No Rework on the following:
  1. Open book/note test and/or quiz
  2. Homework
  3. Projects

The Rework policy is as follows:
1. Students may only rework any grade 69 or below on a closed book test or quiz in any CORE class. (LA, SS, SCI, MA)
2. Rework must be turned in 3 days after it is returned to you.
3. Parents must sign the original quiz/test paper.
4. On a separate sheet of paper, students will correct all incorrect answers as instructed.
5. Students must staple corrected paper on top of original test/quiz and place rework in each class’s basket.
6. Students can earn up to a 70% on reworked assignments.

X.TEAM RULESWhile each teacher will have a different set of class rules, we will all follow the Team rules set forth in this packet.
Team rules are as follows:__
  1. Book bags and large coats must be stored in lockers during the day.
  2. No food or drinks allowed in the classroom, except for a morning healthy snack break. NO chewing gum is permitted.
  3. All textbooks must be covered. Please do not use adhesive covers since they leave sticky residue when removed, thereby ruining the face of the book.
  4. All personal grooming should occur in restrooms. NO types of spray or scented products are allowed in the classrooms. No aerosol products are allowed on school property.
  5. Students are required to be on time for class and must have all required materials in place to begin work.
  6. Students must pass all classes with a minimum of 70 in order to be promoted to the next grade.
  7. Respect the rights and properties of yourselves and others.

IX. Team Discipline:
One or more of the following discipline actions will be taken with your child if he/she should violate any of the team rules or individual classroom rules.
  1. Verbal warning/refocus
  2. Silent lunch
  3. Parent contact
  4. Reflections Room
  5. Referral to administration
We feel that these interventions will be an effective way to handle the disciplinary matters within our team and will reduce the need for administrative involvement. This program, like others in our school, is made effective by parental support.

X. AGENDAS
Student agendas will be furnished again this school year. Unlike the sixth grade, seventh grade teachers do not check to make sure homework is written down and sign the agenda’s daily. Students are responsible for using their agenda for homework as a means of organization, and check the agenda frequently to keep up to date with your child’s progress.

XI. Teacher Contact, Conferences, etc.
If we can be of assistance to you at any time this year, please call the school counseling center to set up a conference or leave a message. We will return your phone call as soon as possible. The Bobcat conference days are on Mondays and Fridays. The counseling center phone number is 444-7208.
It is also pertinent that guidance be able to share confidential information with your child’s teachers.
In order to ensure the success of your child, it is imperative that there is an open line of communication between your child, guidance, teachers and you as parent or guardian. Forms of communication include, but are not limited to, progress reports, phone calls, notes in student agenda, emails…
Teachers can also be reached by email. You can email us directly from our school web page http://www.craven.k12.nc.us/TCM/. This is a convenient and fast way of communicating that fits everybody’s schedule. Teachers check their email every day.
